Academic, Instructor
Success for me meant having the ability to instruct others. To help to inspire new talent. Sometimes it is at a theater festival, sometimes it is in a lecture hall, sometimes it is in a rehearsal studio.
As an instructor I try to remind students that mastery of their craft comes when they start to play, when they begin to see how their craft fits into a larger vernacular of performance. This is why I am a student of Stanislavski but I am a convert to Stan Laurel. I learned iambic pentameter on the boards of a Jacobean theater, but I found the pulse in the Marigny. I structure public speeches like a medieval rhetorician, but learned how to make a good ad hominem attack from Eminem. |
